Ship & Cruise Lines

This matchbook cover category is an interesting one.Back before WWII, there were plenty of ship lines, but no cruise lines.Ship lines simply operated on fixed routes, much like buses or trains. The ship lines not only carried cargo, but passengers as well.Just about all of these ship lines had their own matchbooks as was the best way to advertise back in those days.

Cruise lines came into existence after WWII and grew at a rapid pace.As the number of ships grew, it didn’t make much sense to these folks for each ship to have its own matchbook, so many went to a generic matchbook for all ships.
